Her Kiss Would Pucker a Lemon

She sits in the stands watching the game and all I hear are complaints. They aren't doing this, they aren't doing that. They suck. The QB is bad, the line is bad, the coaches are bad, the receivers can't catch, the halfback always drops the ball. Eloquent, funny at times but oh so sour. Life is not all bad and the team does not always suck, not even most of the time.
Poor Maureen Dowd, the Op-Ed writer for the NY Times. I didn't get around to reading her Times Select piece until last night. I usually read the Times early in the day. I was once again struck by the complete negativity of her writing. I swear that she could make a lemon pucker if she kissed it. I don't think there is much need to quote her, other than to say she once again accused the Dems of being "girlie" (who is being sexist here?) and the Republicans of being "tough". It seems that no matter what any Democrat says, it is disingenuous, weak, or a contradiction of some previous position. I seriously doubt that every Democrat falls into that category. I wonder if she is even capable of writing a positive piece.

I think you are missing the point of what Maureen Dowd meant... She is pointing out that the Democrats are characterized as being weaklings by the neocons. Not that they really are weaklings. This is the neocon gang who didnt;'t manage to serve their county during war time and has found a way to make the group that mostly did, seem like they are weak girlie boys. This characterization is just another way for the Republican media and gang to influence t heir simplistic red constituents .

Here is part of the article, notice she says "they didn't score any (points)."....They're loaded with baggage"..."they allowed themselves to be painted as girlie men". She refers to their failures to counteract the Republicans, not what the Republicans are doing.
"Al Gore, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton called the Bush administration on its apparently bottomless store of imperial sins. They made a lot of good points. They just didn't score any.
This trio, apparently jockeying for '08, are not the best messengers. They're loaded down with baggage.
Two of them, who could have stopped W. and Dick Cheney before they undid 230 years of American democracy, didn't, because they allowed themselves to be painted as girlie men. The other, a manly girl, has been so cautious and opportunistic about weighing in on everything from Schiavo to Alito and Iraq that when she finally sang out on Monday and railed against W., she sounded more soprano than basso profundo."
It is her "opinion" that they didn't score any points. It is her "opinion" that they are girlie men, etc. My point is that she trashes the Dems even when one or more stand up and do get tough with the Republicans. In her mind there seems to be nothing they can do that would work. She is already pre-disposed to them being ineffective. There is a post on Bad Attitudes (www.badattitudes.com) you might find interesting that says something similar.
